As we know, Pineapple is a tropical fruit i.e it is grown in both hot and humid regions within the Tropic of Cancer and Tropic of Capricorn, covering most of the tropical and subtropical areas of Asia, Africa, Central America, South America, the Caribbean and Oceania. So basically guys, Pineapple is everywhere almost every time. Let's dig deeper into this beautifully crowned fruit freely given to us by God.
Here are 11 splashy facts about Pineapples (stay tuned loll);
- Helps To Reduce Arthritis
Pineapples when consumed regularly (not excessively) can help to reduce arthritis because of the presence of an enzyme called Bromelain which can help relieve painful joints, stiffness and also inflammation. Although some folks take Bromelain supplements for this same purpose, but I am quite sure that taking pineapples instead is a safer and even cheaper option.
Pineapple contains about 72% Vitamin C in a single fruit. Isn't that great guys? Vitamin C boosts the immune system, builds and repairs bodily tissues, promotes wound healing and very healthy for the teeth and bones(because of Calcium and Manganese). The body uses Vitamin C to metabolize Collagen. Collagen is one of the primary building blocks of Cartilage and bones. Who said you need filter to glow? The sweet juice of pineapples and its yellow flesh helps to beautify the skin, making you look younger. Vitamin C decreases severity of colds and infections. Guys it is confirmed that our bodies need pineapples!
You should replace high-sugar and high-fat snacks with pineapple chunks. Its sweetness is already available to satisfy your "sweet-mouth". Pineapples are relatively low in calories and do not contain any significant amount of Cholesterol. Pineapples contain 2.3gram of fiber, and fiber adds bulk. It keeps you fuller for longer. The big man, Bromelain helps to lose belly fat. So more Pineapples, really less harmful snacks.
Pineapples help to prevent cancer of the mouth, throat and breast. Pineapple is a storehouse of various antioxidants. Antioxidants are compounds in food that may help to fight inflammations and free radicals in the body. These antioxidants include Vitamin A, Beta-carotene, Bromelain, flavonoid compounds and high levels of Manganese. Did you know that this same Bromelain kills cancer cells? Yes they do. Studies have even shown its superiority to chemotherapy drugs. It has been found that Bromelain eats away a particular protein layer of cancer cells. The protein in animal products feed cancer cells, so even when you eat them, Protein requires energy for digestion,hence there wont be healing. The cancer cells need something unusual, something to kill them, BROMELAIN. Guysss don't sleep on this news.
Beta-carotene, one of the antioxidants in pineapples, is essential for eye health. A study has shown that eating 3 or 4 servings of pineapple can lower the risk of ARMD (Age Related Macular Degeneration), which is the leading cause of vision loss in older adults.
Some of us can get nauseous after taking something oily. Guess what...Pineapple juice helps to avert nausea and morning sickness. This is quite useful for pregnant women and people who get motion sickness in airplanes.
Pineapples also have side effects if taken IN EXCESS. They include;
Very high intake of Pineapples may cause allergic reactions like swollen lips and a tingling sensation in the throat for some people. This is due to the enzymes. Hence, because of these reactions it is advisable to wash pineapple slices in clean salt water to wash away the enzymes responsible.
Some of the enzymes in pineapples can increase uterus contraction in early stages of pregnancy, which can increase the rate of absorption and lead to miscarriage. Pineapples are safer in later stages of pregnancy, but please, still make sure to consult your doctor.
- Can Increase Blood Sugar Level
Although pineapple is good for diabetics as it helps in regulating blood sugar level, it is a fruit that contains natural sugars like sucrose and fructose. These are simple sugars but not good for diabetics when taken in excess. 1 or 2 servings can be taken per day.
- Bromelain can interfere with medications like antibiotics and blood gaining drugs.
- Unripe pineapples are toxic in nature and can cause vomiting.
